About Us & Team

TEDxBangkok is a platform that extends “Ideas Worth Spreading” from international to local level. It was formed in 2015 by a group of passionate people who are deeply interested in TED Talks, mainly TEDx organizers and TED Open Translation Project members, who believe that multi-disciplinary ideas are the key to drive the society and country forward.

TEDxBangkok is a non-profit, volunteer based event. Any remaining funds are used for organizing future TEDx events.

What is TED ?

TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages.

n the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxBangkok, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxBangkok event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

No. Each ticket requires a matching application and the attendance will be checked against the name on the application form.

One of the goals of the event is to allow priority for those who are open to consume in variety of talks regardless of their interest on a specific speaker. Therefore we announce speakers only when the event is near.

We generally engage and confirm our speakers on average 4-6 months in advance. Therefore our speakers preparation is definitely not the factor that we announce our speakers very late.

Income from ticketing and sponsorship are spent on speakers curation, venue, food, production, marketing, etc. Any excess are required by TED to be spent on future TEDx events. Income from the event cannot be used for other endeavours outside TED/TEDx causes.
